The series explores Nazi treasure hunts, focusing on the organization "Das Ahnenerbe," founded by Himmler. Its goal was to find artifacts, treasures, and religious relics of power.
Although Hitler emphasized Aryan ideology, he also recognized the influence of institutionalized religion. The Nazis intended to transform the future Reich by drawing on mythological elements, even portraying Christ as an Aryan hero.
After World War I, the Nazis turned to mystics, sky maps, and astrological predictions. They hoped that contact with the supernatural would restore their glory and prestige.
As Nazi Germany prepared for World War II, it was at the forefront of scientific innovation. However, Hitler believed in esoteric theories, so the Ahnenerbe set itself the goal of creating a new, dominant school of Aryan (pseudo)science.
